VISION STATEMENT

Making Kolkata a Green City – through the conservation and development of its Green Infrastructure – Trees, Green Verges, Canal Side, Parks, other Public and Private spaces.

To work towards a Kolkata city (Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, Bidhannagar, New Town) which through the action of its stakeholders, emerges as a climate resilient and sustainable city, with its environmental and sustainability issues addressed and being addressed as they emerge.

To strategically undertakes Pilot which can be upscaled into larger, long term, sustainable Projects.

MISSION STATEMENT

Kolkata Climate Initiatives.

To make Kolkata into a green city – plant and maintain the trees planted in the city, conserve and develop city parks, add more and more greens into the city’s land area – both public and private.

To engage the city’s stakeholders, residents, the floating population, the corporate and business community, the institutions and organisations, the youth and the political representatives into :

climate & environment dialogue and action
create knowledge systems and awareness amongst the community about Kolkata’s environmental and climate change challenges, sustainability
natural urban green infrastructure conservation and development
the compelling need for urgent action to create sustainable city and communities
integration of environment education into the school system, curriculum and textbooks in partnership with schools and the National and State Departments of Education
municipal solid-waste management – specially reduce and segregate
air pollution – specially plastic waste burning and its management

STRATEGY

Communication & Action is Centre for Contemporary Communication (CCC)’s Strategy.

Development communication strives for behavior change – not just information dissemination, education, or awareness raising. While the latter are necessary ingredients of communication, they are not sufficient for getting people to change long-established practices or behaviors. Any CHANGE requires time and creation of meaning through communication in a ‘development’ situation.

Direct action for conservation and development of Green Infrastructure.

To take up Pilot Projects for Climate and Environment action, and successfully implement them so that they can be scaled up at the required level.

GOVERNING COUNCIL

Dr. Suchitra Ghosh, President, is a Ph.D. in Avian Neurophysiology – Sec. Physiology, from University of Calcutta, Kolkata. She has teaching experience in several Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Departments under Calcutta University. She has published over 25 Scientific Papers in National and International Journals.

Mallika Jalan, Secretary, has an advanced degree (M.A.) in Development Communication, from Cornell University, NY, USA. She has been working in the Development Sector since her graduation in 1988.

Jyotirmoy Chowdhury, Member, is an M.A. in Arts from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata and a PGD(MC) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has worked as Chief of Corporate Communication and Community Development at Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd.( HEC), Ranchi, Jharkhand; He has also worked as a Faculty in Development Communication at Roopkala Kendra, Government of West Bengal, Kolkata. He is currently a Guest Faculty at Media Science Department of Techo India at Salt Lake, Kolkata and Aliah University, Kolkata.

Debangshu Mitter, Member, is a graduate from Calcutta University, Kolkata. He is a Film Maker with several documentaries on the Development sector to his credit.

Amitava Mohinta, Member, Accounting and Finance professional.
